Modern ships rely on a large number of electrical and control systems. A modern engineer or maritime officer must be able to do maintenance and repairs on these systems to ensure the safety and economic performance of the ship. This course will help you to refresh your ability and understanding performing this job.

Course content

After completion of this course you will have sufficient knowledge and understanding of:

  • Safety concerning electrical systems
  • Reading electrical diagrams
  • Fault finding in circuitry containing relays and PLC’s
  • Measurements on electrical motors, transformers and generators
  • Droop systems for managing active and reactive power

    Practical content

    During this course you will:
  • Do fault finding practices
  • Do simple PLC programming for controlling a hydraulic system
  • Do measurements on electrical and controlling components
  • Perform correcting actions on a power management system

    Entry standards

    To apply you need an Certificate of Competency (a seafarer’s license) as an engineer or maritime officer or a similar level certificate.

    The duration of the course is five days, from Monday until Friday. For start dates check


    The course fee is € 1.150,- (exempt from VAT) including lunch, coffee and tea, excluding travel and subsistence expenses.
